Tired of painful shaving, waxing, or plucking! Laser hair removal is now the most popular method for eliminating unwanted body and facial hair. At Da Vinci Medical Spa, we use the absolute best laser hair removal technology available to quickly, safely, and effectively remove unwanted hair from any body area.
How does laser hair removal work?
A concentrated beam of light is aimed at hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment, which damages the follicle enough to retard future growth. At the proper wavelength and energy, the laser light penetrates the skin disabling the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. Hair follicles that are in an active growth phase and with sufficient pigmentation will be disabled by the absorbed laser energy.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser hair removal is less painful than waxing, shaving or tweezing. Those with dark, coarse or dense hair will feel the laser energy more than those with light and thin hair. Clients generally find the laser treatments to be easily tolerated.
How many laser hair removal treatments are needed?
Anywhere from six to ten treatments will be needed for best laser hair removal results. Some may require more than ten treatments on certain body areas. Skin color, hair color, texture, thickness, skin thickness, and follicle depth are some of the factors that determine how many laser hair removal sessions will be needed for best results. Gray and white hair without pigment at the follicle cannot be removed by laser.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
No laser can claim to permanently remove hair. You will notice a reduction in hair growth following each laser treatment. After several sessions you will likely see little to no hair growth. Some medications can cause new hair growth. Even hormonal changes can produce new hair growth, such as pregnancy, or menopause. Occasional touch up laser treatments may be needed to remove new hair growth over time.
What are the side effects or risks from laser hair removal?
Hyper-pigmentation, or hypo-pigmentation is the most common side-effect of laser hair removal. Avoiding prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds for one week prior and one week following a laser hair removal procedure can greatly reduce your risk of darkening or lightening of the skin. SPF should be applied every two hours to laser treated areas whenever outdoors.
Who can not have laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal cannot be administered if you are pregnant or currently taking certain medications that increase the photo sensitivity of your skin. If you are currently nursing, your risk of hyper or hypo pigmentation may increase.
